Team,

My name is Kevin Abbott, and it seems as we lack a head coach for this season, I'll be filling that role. My son Braiden and I are excited to meet all of you and have a fun dribbling, kicking and shooting our way through the summer.

I encourage all of you to spend some time on the Tonka United web site, as it houses all the information you'll need for the season. The Recreation Calendar gives a pretty good rundown of all of the events you need to be aware of, and I'll try to send out reminders via email as well.

There are 2 things you absolutely must have: shin guards and a #3 size soccer ball. And that's pretty much it.

We have games on Thursdays, and play rain or shine (unless there's lightning). If games are rescheduled, we'll have makeup games on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. Please try to remember to bring both red and blue jerseys to each game… that way we know we'll always have the right color jerseys.

I was thinking of having a 1 hour practice from 6pm-7pm on Monday nights at Roundhouse Park at (on Minnewashta Parkway between Highways 5 & 7). Hopefully that works for most of us. I know many of the kids are playing baseball as well, and am aware that there may be scheduling conflicts. Kickoff Week starts April 27, and Tonka United is using our first game as a clinic of sorts. They'll have lots of coaches and volunteers there…should be a fun start for the kids. Let's plan on starting practice the following Monday (May 4th).

Another thing: picture day is on May 2nd. They weren't really clear on the when and where just yet, so I'll keep an eye on the website and let everyone know.
